I worked full time I was a single parent with a mortgage to pay so never had much choice in the matter. When my son was about to start his first day of school in P1. I was a deputy manager working long hours 12 hour days as had a commute. And I hadn’t got around to buying his school uniform yet..
But a few weeks before my son was due to start his first day of school – I received absolutely devastating news!
I’d dedicated my life and career to a job I loved and then…
In one fell SWOOP – BOOM!
It was all GONE!
I found out I was being made redundant, from a job I loved at Daily Mail where I’d worked for almost 13 years.
I’d missed all the major milestones in his life, his first words, his first steps, his first nativity play.
The fact I had no school uniform – I was relying on being employed, and having a salary I could rely on and a generous bonus.
I panicked I was given gardening leave.
